The Mount Isa Mines Rodeo is back live in the stunning red dirt of Buchanan Park Arena TODAY (Thursday, August, 12) for four days of world-class rodeo action and entertainment.

Queensland favourites Sheppard and country legend Lee Kernaghan will head the entertainment lineup for the largest rodeo in the southern hemisphere.

Isa Rodeo Limited Chief Executive Officer Ms Natalie Flecker said the event had attracted more than 750 entries from Australia’s best rodeo competitors.

“We have many current and multiple national and Mount Isa champions and they are busting to put on a show and also compete for their slice of the $230,000 prize money on offer,” said Ms Flecker. “We are excited to be back on the red dirt and delivering this incredible event for our competitors and rodeo fans to enjoy.”

“We have really been heartened by the passion and enthusiasm of our rodeo fans who have been so keen to return to watching the live event and enjoy all the entertainment and Outback hospitality it delivers. Our number one priority has been creating a spectacular event which will be safe for our competitors and visitors.”

Rodeo fans are in for a delicious new treat this year with the Shank Brothers live BBQ shows from Friday to Sunday over the rodeo weekend.

Ms Flecker said Mount Isa was excited to see its only major event return to the famous red dirt of the purpose-built Buchanan Park Arena.

“We are very proud our event celebrates the spirit of the Queensland Outback and the skill and competitiveness of our cowboys and cowgirls is truly awe-inspiring,” she said.

General Manager Health, Safety, Environment & Community for Glencore’s Queensland Metals, Ms Maryann Wipaki said Mount Isa Mines was proud to support its namesake rodeo, now in its 62nd year.

“Mount Isa Mines and the Isa Rodeo together have formed a legendary partnership since 1959, and we’re standing alongside the Isa Rodeo to bring you the 2021 Mount Isa Mines Rodeo again this year.

“We are excited to see it back in the arena this year, providing entertainment for our community, and generating around $10 million into the local economy,” said Ms Wipaki.

Ms Flecker said the nation’s top cowboys and cowgirls would compete in eight rodeo events – bull riding, saddlebronc, bareback, ladies barrel race, team roping, rope and tie, steer wrestling and breakaway roping. Nightly concerts will feature Australian entertainment legends Sheppard and Lee Kernaghan, supported by Casey Barnes and Mick Lindsay, along with Mailman Express horse races, bush poetry breakfast and the “Shank Brothers” live BBQ shows. Visit www.isarodeo.com.au
