Rock icon Jimmy Barnes headlines a stellar lineup of Aussie artists grabbing their boots, hats and guitars for the Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo in August.
The legendary singer will shake up the red dirt in the first ever concert to be held inside the Isa Rodeo’s world-class Buchanan Park arena, just a few hours after the last broncs and bulls have bucked out of the chutes.
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones today announced the entertainment lineup for the Isa Rodeo, the biggest rodeo in the southern hemisphere.
“World-class rodeo action will lead into the night-time Rodeo Rock live concert series on the Wardles Main Stage,” Ms Jones said.
“Entertainment on the final night will include a ‘birthday bash’ to celebrate the Isa Rodeo’s diamond jubilee.
“The Isa Rodeo organisers have long recognised that live music is an important part of the rodeo weekend.
“Visitors to this event will also enjoy outback Queensland’s hospitality and lifestyle, leaving them with some great Queensland memories.”
Newcastle-based Viper Creek Band and one of Australia’s most recognisable country stars, Shannon Noll will kick off the Rodeo Rock concerts on Friday night (August 10).
The Saturday night concert (August 11) will feature The McClymonts and Travis Collins, who won the Male Artist of the Year for the second consecutive year at last week’s Country Music Channel (CMC) Awards.
Sunday night’s birthday bash concert (August 12) will be headlined by Jimmy Barnes, and feature The Wolfe Brothers, country stars Tania Kernaghan and James Blundell and one of Australia’s most exciting acts on the live circuit, Brewn.
Jimmy Barnes said, “I’m really looking forward to playing the Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary Isa Rodeo on the red dirt of the famous Isa Rodeo arena. Mount Isa is a great rock n roll town and it’s been way too long since we were last there. The band and I can’t wait to tear it up with The Wolfe Brothers, Tania Kernaghan, James Blundell and Brewn in the Arena on the last night of the rodeo. See you there!”
All rodeo tickets, accommodation, packages and tickets for the Birthday Bash concert go on sale today (Wednesday, March 21).
Apart from the live concerts, rodeo week entertainment includes a Wednesday night Isa Street Festival with free live concert organised by the Mount Isa City Council; the Mailmans Express horse race (August 9); Bush Poets Breakfast (August 10); Fred Brophy’s Outback Boxing Tent and much more.
The Isa Rodeo has won back to back Australian Tourism Awards in the Festival and Events category – Silver (2017) and Gold (2016).
The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and promoted as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland event calendar.
