Outback town in countdown to ultimate experience

With under two weeks until the official festivities kick off for the 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo, it isn’t just fun filled days for the 25,000 visitors that descend upon the outback town… it’s also big business and the highlight of the year for the local community and business houses.

Since the rodeo’s inception in 1959, awareness of the annual Mount Isa event has been on a steady incline. Now boasting over 25,000 visitors to the town for the largest Rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere, the only question left is how the town manages the large influx.

Already business houses and retail outlets are showing their support and in the spirit of the event are transforming the mining town into a giant fairground in preparation of the expected large visitor numbers that will take in the entertainment, dancing, carnival rides and food.

It has long been recognised that the community involvement behind the Rodeo is what makes it such a unique festival. The Isa Rodeo Festival is held each year for approximately two weeks and culminates with the Isa Rodeo. Whilst trends in the past few years have seen substantial growth not only in competitor numbers but also spectator numbers, it’s seems that the 2007 will again increase in both and have the far north Queensland mining town operating at full capacity!
