It’s gold for the Isa Rodeo, and entry to tourism’s Hall of Fame

The Mount Isa Mines Rodeo has won its third consecutive Queensland Tourism Award and been admitted to the prestigious Hall of Fame.

Mount Isa Rodeo Inc (MIRI) President Mr Darren Campi and General Manager Ms Natalie Flecker collected the Festival and Events award at a glittering ceremony attended by almost 1,000 guests at The Star Gold Coast last Friday night.

Mr Campi said it was the ultimate finale to a huge year which saw the biggest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere celebrate its 60th Diamond Jubilee Rodeo.

The Isa Rodeo would now go through to the 2018 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards being held in Launceston on March 1, 2019.

“The Isa Rodeo won gold in 2016, and silver earlier this year at the 2017 national awards in the Festivals and Events category, so it is a huge achievement that we are contesting these extremely competitive and prestigious awards for the third year in a row,” said Mr Campi.

“We are extremely grateful for the valuable support we receive from our longstanding sponsors, the Queensland Government, the MIRI committee and Rotarians, our rodeo event team and not least, the almost 900 volunteers who do an outstanding job year after year helping us deliver this iconic event.”

Mr Campi said the Isa Rodeo was gearing up to participate in an international consumer trade show in Las Vegas next month (December) as part of the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) National Finals Rodeo.

“Last year was our first year representing the Isa Rodeo and Outback Queensland at this very targeted show which is attended by thousands of North American rodeo fans,” said Mr Campi.

Rodeo fans will have the opportunity to enquire about, or purchase, a Reef, Rainforest and Rodeo package specifically designed for the North American market through leading international travel company Down Under Answers. The package will be available for travellers to purchase on our stand to come to Australia and Mount Isa next year.

Ms Flecker will also be attending the PRCA Conference and National Finals. The PRCA is the highest paying American rodeo organisation in the world. It sanctions rodeos in 37 US states and three Canadian provinces. The National Finals are its championship event.

The 2019 Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will be held over four days, from August 8 to 11, 2019.

The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and promoted as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland event calendar.
