Isa rodeo judged region’s best event for second consecutive year

The Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo has been judged Outback Queensland’s best event at the Outback Queensland Tourism Awards for the second consecutive year.

Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo Manager Ms Natalie Flecker accepted the award for the Best Festivals and Events category in Charleville last Saturday night.

Ms Flecker paid tribute to the competitors, stock, sponsors, Rotarians, suppliers, volunteers and the people of Mount Isa, who all contribute to the rodeo’s win.

“We are very proud to again win this award,” she said. “Many people work very hard to make the rodeo such a special experience for our visitors, and this award recognises their contribution. Thank you very much to everyone involved.”

Ms Flecker said all award nominees were working towards the same cause. “We’re trying to promote and work together to promote the Outback,” she said.

The Isa Rodeo will now be one of the nominees in the same category of the 2014 Queensland Tourism Awards to be held in Brisbane next Friday, November 28.

Ms Flecker said the rodeo was unique as a not-for-profit event run by Rotarians which has contributed more than $3.8 million back to local charities and community groups during its proud history.

“We are absolutely committed to delivering a world-class event every year,” said Ms Flecker. “We put a lot of effort into improving our event every year, so it is lovely for these efforts to be recognised by this award.”

Preparations are already well underway for the 2015 Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo to be held from August 7 to 9.
