The Mount Isa Mines Rodeo has donated $20,000 to North West Hospital and Health Services for their Renal Unit.
Mount Isa Rodeo Inc (MIRI) President Mr Darren Campi and General Manager Ms Natalie Flecker jointly presented a cheque to the North West Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Ms Lisa Davies Jones and Board Chair, Paul Woodhouse.
Ms Davies Jones said it was particularly exciting to receive the rodeo’s donation given that the Renal Unit had recently been repatriated back to the North West HHS, after years of ownership and management by the Townsville HHS.
“Diabetes and chronic renal disease is a real challenge in the north west and we have patients who would dearly love to return to their homes but have had to move to Mount Isa or Townsville for dialysis treatment,” said Ms Davies Jones.
“Now that we have the management of the Mount Isa Renal Unit, we will be able to put in place dialysis services in our more remote hospitals so we can treat our patients closer to home.
“The rodeo’s donation will certainly help us achieve this and will make a positive impact on many people’s lives.”
The Mount Isa Mines Rodeo recently won its third consecutive Queensland Tourism Award and was admitted to the prestigious Hall of Fame.
The 2019 Isa Rodeo will be held over four days, from August 8 to 11, 2019.
The Mount Isa Mines Rodeo is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and promoted as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland event calendar.
