Isa Rodeo Animal Welfare Statement

The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo has some of the highest animal welfare regulations, including a code of conduct adopted for rodeo competition as well as animal welfare legislation.

Isa Rodeo Arena Director Mr Steve Hilton said every safeguard was put in place to make sure animals were treated well and humanely. In addition, the venue was specially designed to provide the safest environment for both competitors and animals.

Two animals were unfortunately injured during yesterday’s competition in rare and freak accidents, said Mr Hilton.

“Sometimes, unfortunately animals get hurt and it’s a very sad time for the owners and the competitors. The injury rate in rodeos is less than 0.05 per cent which is far less frequent than for cattle in their natural environment.
