Born and bred Mount Isa girl Kirsty is counting down the days until she returns to her hometown for the first time since becoming a XXXX Angel.
Kirsty and the other six ‘Angels’ will be performing at various venues around Mount Isa from August 7 to 9 during the annual Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo.
“I joined the XXXX Angels in December last year, and haven’t been back to Mount Isa since. My family is still there and I cannot wait to get home to see them.
“Performing in front of my home crowd will be very special for me and particularly at the Rodeo which I have been to as long as I can remember!
“The thing I love most about Mount Isa is the people – everyone is so down to earth, friendly and welcoming.”
Kirsty, a qualified personal trainer, auditioned for the XXXX Angels in August last year after completing a Bachelor of Exercise Science at Griffith University,
“Being a XXXX Angel encompasses everything I love – sport, dance, travel, good mates and good fun. It is also one of the only full-time dance contracts offered in Australia, allowing us to travel and explore our own country rather than having to head off overseas,” said Kirsty.
“We tour the entire year making appearances in every state and territory, rewarding the loyal XXXX drinker with a round on us and providing a taste test for all those yet to convert. We perform at many incredible sporting events which XXXX sponsors, including the State of Origin, QLD NRL clashes, every Australian V8 Supercars round, rodeos and race days.”
The largest rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere, Mount Isa’s 20,000-strong population will almost triple when the rodeo (and the XXXX Angels) come to ‘the Isa’, a city celebrating its 85th anniversary this year.
Local, interstate and international competitors will compete for a prize pool of more than $200,000 in the Kalkadoon Stadium at the purpose-built Buchanan Park complex. Away from the ring the fun will continue with performances by The Hoodoo Gurus, Beccy Cole, Ruckus and of course the XXXX Angels, and social events including Mardi Gras, Rodeo Queen Quest and Bull Pit.
Competitor entries close late July but tickets to the event are now on sale. Prices start at $30 per day for adults, $15 pensioners and $10 for children between seven to 17 years. Family and multi-day passes are also available and offer savings of up to 20 percent.
Mount Isa is located in north-west Queensland, 900km inland from Townsville along the Overlander’s Way. It is also easily accessed by direct flights from Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns. Come earlier or stay after the rodeo and explore the city some more. Include a visit to Outback at Isa where you can check out the Riversleigh Fossil Centre and see first hand the workings of an underground mine with the ‘Hard Times Mine tour’. Visit beautiful Lake Moondarra and take a drive or a tour to see the region’s twin jewels, Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park and the fascinating Riversleigh Fossil Fields.
