The annual general meeting of the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Inc (MIRRI) has re-elected its incumbent board for another three year term.
Mr Campi was re-elected as MIRRI President and Rowena McNally, who has extensive experience as a board chair and director, was re-elected as Vice President.
“I am humbled and honoured to have been given the privilege of serving for another term as MIRRI President and I would like to thank the Rotarians who voted to keep the incumbent board in place,” said Mr Campi. “During the past term, with our rodeo manager Natalie Flecker, the event has gone from strength to strength.
“Tourism and Events Queensland elevated the rodeo to Major Events status late last year, followed by winning the 2016 Qantas Australian Tourism Award.
“The quality of entertainment has increased and attendance has also continued to increase. These achievements don’t happen easily or by accident, but by working closely with our industry partners and loyal supporters and sponsors.”
Mr Campi said the re-election of the MIRRI board would provide valuable continuity for the event in terms of forward-planning, particularly with the 60th Diamond Jubilee Rodeo in 2018.
“We are very aware of the vital importance of having a clear vision and plan in place for the Isa Rodeo,” said Mr Campi.
“We could not do it without the support of our naming sponsor, Mount Isa Mines, the Rotarian community and our many valued sponsors and community supporters and volunteers.
“We look forward to fulfilling the trust MIRRI’s Rotarian members have placed in the current board.”
The 2017 rodeo will be held from August 11 to 13, with preparations already well underway, including the Rodeo Queen Quest whose entrants have raised millions of dollars for local charities as diverse as the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service, the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC), North Queensland Rescue Helicopter Service, the Laura Johnson Home and BUSHkids community health organisation.
The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and promoted as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland event calendar.
