That’s no Bull!

The 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo kicks off the schedule of major events tomorrow evening with the first of the two “Bell & Moir Toyota Bull Pit” events. Organisers are encouraging locals and visitors to take the time to experience the excitement and non-stop of action as Isa Rodeo 07 takes off.

The Wednesday and Friday Night Bell & Moir Toyota Bull Pits are Round One for the Open Bull Ride and Open Bareback events, providing an arena of man against beast as competitors fight for rewards and glory. Competitors are required to qualify in this round to move onto the second round and then to the finals – this means the Bell & Moir Toyota Bull Pit events will provide plenty of thrills and spills from competitors at all levels.

The Wednesday night Bell & Moir Toyota Bull Pit will feature half of round one for the Open Bull Ride and Open Bareback with Friday night featuring the other half of round one for Open Bull Ride and Open Bareback.

A total of 48 competitors will compete in the Open Bull Ride on Wednesday Night and 10 competitors will fight it out in the Bareback Bronc event. Included in the line-up for Wednesday night is 2003 Australian Bull Riding Champion, Stuart Frame.

Friday night will welcome 49 competitors who will be competing in the Open Bull Ride with 10 competitors taking on the Bareback Bronc event on Friday Night. Competing on Friday night is former Australian Bullriding Champions Jason O’Hearn and Mathew Postle.

The competitors will be taking on famous beasts such as “The Matrix” (named 2007 Professional Bullriders World Cup Bull of the Event) as well as ‘Hard Yards’ and ‘Lethal Injection’.

A total of fifty of the very best bulls available in Australia will be used for the Open Bull Ride on Wednesday Night with ten of the very best horses in Australia will be used for the Open Bareback on Wednesday Night. Major bull riders will all descend upon Mount Isa to compete for the $20,000 prize pool and $10,000 bonus for the winner. There is a $10,000 bonus also up for grabs which will be the single highest cheque amount ever presented to a rider/winner in Australia.

Round two of qualifying events are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with the finals on Sunday afternoon.

The largest rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere, the 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will run from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August 2007. With a record bounty on offer to competitors, the event is preparing for what will be its biggest year.
