Known as the “School of Hard Knocks”, the Isa Rodeo School is not your average school – the teachers are Australian rodeo champions and the students are prepared to “hit the dust” in the classroom (the world-class Buchanan Park arena) after climbing onboard bucking broncs
Last Rodeo School was held on August 10, 2016
A former World Rookie of the Year and current Australian Saddle Bronc Champion will share his bronc riding knowledge and skills in an Outback classroom like no other next week – the Isa Rodeo School.
Star cowboy Brad Pierce, 30, will be the bronc riding instructor while Australian champion pick up man, Lindsay Rosetta will teach a Pick Up Man School.
Currently based in Tooma, NSW, Pierce was the 2005 Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) Rookie of the Year, 2006 World Rookie of the Year, 2009 and 2015 APRA Australian Saddle Bronc Champion. Rosetta was 2013 APRA Pick Up Man of the Year, and has been coming to the Isa Rodeo since 1988.
APRA General Manager and the Isa Rodeo Arena Director, Steve Hilton, also a former Australian rodeo champion, would help run the one-day school.
The Isa Rodeo School was an initiative of the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Inc (MIRRI) board in partnership with the Australian Professional Riders Association (APRA).
Cost is $250. To register, contact the rodeo office on firstname.lastname@example.org or call (07) 4743 2706.
The courses will cover an introduction to rodeo, expected conduct of a rodeo competitor, theory, equipment, bucking chute and correct riding techniques plus animal welfare procedures, safety and dismount techniques.
The Isa Rodeo Schools aims at helping local riders and those new to the sport keen to learn rodeo skills.
