Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Inc (MIRRI) board member Peter Gogsch is retiring after a decade as the organisation’s treasurer.
MIRRI Chairman Mr Darren Campi paid tribute to Mr Gogsch’s significant contribution after he announced he would not seek re-election after three terms as Treasurer at MIRRI’s recent annual general meeting.
“During this time, Peter has overseen multi-million-dollar budgets including contributions back to the local community of $1.7 million during his time as Treasurer,” said Mr Campi.
“In the past 12 months alone, Peter has overseen $143,000 paid back to the community, including $80,000 raised by the Queen Quest and payments made to other charities and community groups.
“On behalf of MIRRI, we would like to thank Peter who has played a huge role in the ongoing success of the Isa Rodeo by managing the financial side of the event.
He has contributed many, many voluntary hours in his role as Treasurer which carries a great degree of responsibility.
“Not only has he run the Treasury during the event for the past 10 rodeos, but his role has required a year-round commitment and Peter has always played a key role in the event’s success over many years.”
Mr Gogsch, who arrived in Australia in 2002 from Killarney in southern Ireland, said after 10 years as Treasurer it was time for a change.
“I have really enjoyed my time with the rodeo and will still be involved in a hands on way over the weekend,” he said.
Mr Peter Tuppurainen, a chartered accountant and partner in Wardle Accounting, was elected the new Treasurer.
Mr Campi said Mr Tuppurainen had a long association with the Isa Rodeo as entertainment coordinator for many years.
“Peter will bring a wealth of experience and passion to his new position,” he said.
The Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary Isa Rodeo will be held from 9 to 12 August, 2018.
