About Rotary

The Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo, as it was first known, was born out of a desire by a young service club to “think big”.

Only in operation a couple of months, the first Rotary Club in Mount Isa had successfully completed a number of small community service projects, but wanted to tackle something bigger. And so the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo began.

A better world

Rotary in Mount Isa today is made up of two districts – Mount Isa Club and Mount Isa South West Club – and is part of a worldwide network of men and women who share a common vision for a better world.

Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries around the world all providing humanitarian service, encouraging high ethical standards in all vocations and helping to build goodwill and peace in the world.

Service above self

The Rotary motto is Service Above Self – service in the community, service in the workplace and service throughout the world.

Through community service projects, Rotary address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty, hunger, the environment, illiteracy and violence.

The organisation also supports programs for youth, education, career development and international exchanges for students, teachers and professionals.

Through the Isa Rodeo, Mount Isa Rotary has donated more than $3 million to charitable, community, cultural, sporting and service organisations.
