New “Gold Class” seating and three and five day camping packages are among the new options for rodeo-goers attending Mount Isa’s famous rodeo in August.
Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo Manager Ms Natalie Flecker said the largest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere had also introduced online ticketing to make it easier for locals and tourists alike to book a stadium-side seat for the rodeo being held from Friday to Sunday, August 8 to 10.
Ms Flecker said for the first time, rodeo-goers would have the choice between new gold seating, which guaranteed a seat in the prime viewing position opposite the chutes for the duration of the three-day event. Unallocated seating is also available.
“Our new online ticketing system will allocate the best available seat at the time of booking,” said Ms Flecker. “Our system is up and running and we have been blown away by the positive response – and great start to our ticket sales. We only have a limited amount of gold seating, so don’t leave it too late in case you miss out.”
Ms Flecker said with accommodation at a premium during the three day rodeo, she had also introduced a range of three day packages plus a five day packages for visitors wanting to stay longer to experience the Isa’s attractions.
“We are seeking to complement the great range of accommodation which is already on offer within the city,” she said. “Our packages provide the choice of camping (in a caravan, campervan, motorhome or swag) at a powered or unpowered site, plus include a three-day rodeo pass (with a choice of gold or unallocated seating), plus breakfast on Saturday and Sunday of rodeo weekend. The five-night packages also include a ticket to the Mailman Express horse races held on the Thursday night.
Ms Flecker said this year’s rodeo would also feature a new festival-style entertainment line-up which will kick off after Friday night’s famous Mardi Gras parade (August 8).
“One of the most successful acts on the Australian music scene – the McClymonts – are performing in Mount Isa for their very first time for rodeo on Saturday night,” said Ms Flecker. “Your rodeo pass or daily ticket if you only come that day also includes our live music line-up so it’s pretty amazing value,” she said.
Friday night’s line-up includes Kaylens Rain, hilarious comedy act Buddy Goode, Luke Austen and Kaylee Bell, and culminating in a performance by Mike Carr and the Allstars.
A three-day “Gold” seating pass is $180, and three-day pass with unallocated seating is $95.00.
A one day rodeo ticket (for either Friday, Saturday or Sunday) is adult $40; children (aged 6 -17 years) $10; Family pass (2 adults, 2 children) $80 and pensioner (aged or disability) $30.
Three-night packages camping packages (Swag City, powered and unpowered sites), including a three day rodeo pass (choice of gold seating or unallocated seating) plus breakfast Saturday and Sunday, are available from $180.
Five-night packages (powered or unpowered camping), including a three day rodeo pass (choice of gold seating or unallocated seating), plus a ticket to the Mailman Express and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday are available from $340, or $290 for five nights camping at an unpowered site including a three-day rodeo pass.
