Rotarians from the three Rotary Clubs in Mount Isa – Mount Isa South, Mount Isa West and the Mount Isa Club came together and reflected on the past year and the exciting possibilities of the year ahead at the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday night, 2nd April 2007.
The last Isa Rodeo at Kalkadoon Park in 2006 was considered a success in terms of the entertainment enjoyed by the community and the overall bottom line.
The Chairman of Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Inc (MIRRI), Alf Horne stated that “Looking back at the 2006 Isa Rodeo we have acknowledged that it was a financial success and this was achieved by spreading the entertainment over four days and utilising two different venues.”
The audited figures for the 2006 Isa Rodeo were passed allowing the MIRRI Management Committee to investigate and allocate the rodeo profit to be disbursed into the community at a later date.
MIRRI has recently advertised for expressions of interest from local non-profit community organisations seeking funding for worthwhile charitable projects to be undertaken during the 2007/2008 financial year. The funds for this round have been allocated from the proceeds of the 2005 Isa Rodeo.
Three new directors were elected at the AGM following the resignations received during 2006 due to a number of different circumstances such as moving away from Mount Isa. The vacant positions were filled by:
- Gayle Dougall – Art Union / Mardi Gras Director
- Tony Wolfenden – Volunteers / Provisions / Entertainment Director
- Simon Pate – Treasurer
The new directors willingly accepted their directorships with enthusiasm and anticipation for the future of the Isa Rodeo, particularly with the fantastic opportunity to relocate the event to Mount Isa’s new entertainment complex – Buchanan Park.
MIRRI has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mount Isa City Council to combine the roles of the Buchanan Park Complex Facilities Manager and the MIRRI General Manager. Both roles have been filled by Joyce McCulloch.
Alf Horne said “I am happy to report that through all the meetings and negotiations, MIRRI and the Mount Isa City Council have enjoyed a close and constructive association which resulted in the signing of an MOU on 2nd January 2007.”
“This facility will allow Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Incorporated to deliver a world class Rodeo Events Festival and maintain its status as the Rodeo Capital of Australia,” said Alf Horne.
Despite the many memories at Kalkadoon Park, the general consensus by all at the AGM was that the sky is the limit for the future of the Isa Rodeo – there are bigger and better things yet to come.
