LEGENDARY SINCE 1959

Local takes out top prize in Isa Raffle

It’s not just competitors that had the opportunity to walk away with prizes at the 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo, the largest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere today left three rodeo-goers feeling like true winners.

For three of the individuals that took a gamble, the odds for the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Art Union prize draw proved favourable for local lady Beverley Whellens of Mount Isa who took out first prize, Margaret Skewes of Werris Creek (NSW) won second prize and Tony Walsh from Dubbo (NSW) was left smiling with third prize.

Each year the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo joins forces with local business ‘Bell and Moir Toyota’ and the Mount Isa ‘Harvey World Travel’ outlet to present the MOUNT ISA ROTARY RODEO ART UNION prize draw. Tickets offer a bigger bounty than the standard raffle, with the draw restricted to a maximum of only 2,000 tickets with a price tag of $100 each; punters who purchased tickets knew their chances were better than most lotto’s.

With over $100,000 worth of prizes on offer, the annual raffle sold out quickly. The prizes awarded in 2007 were:

First prize: Toyota Prado GXL Turbo Diesel, 4X4 Wagon with Standard Features including Air Conditioning (Including all on road costs).

Second Prize: Toyota Aurion ATX 3.5L V6 Petrol Sedan with Standard Features including Air Conditioning and Silver Metallic Paint (Including all on road costs).

Third prize: $3,000 Travel Voucher with Harvey World Travel.

Mrs Joyce McCulloch, General Manager of the 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo said, “We’ve had over 25,000 visitors take in the excitement of the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo in the past week, we believe all visitors have left having experienced a great time but something tells me the three lucky winners are smiling more than the other 24,997”.

“We’d like to extend our thanks to our partners at the Art Union and the support of local businesses like Bell and Moir Toyota and Harvey World Travel who donated so freely to support the Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo. It is elements such as the Art Union prize draw that allow us to deliver unique offerings such as this”, Mrs McCulloch added.

The largest rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere, the 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will run from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August 2007. With a record bounty on offer to competitors, the event is preparing for what will be its biggest year both on and offline.
