With just a few days to go until the biggest rodeo in the southern hemisphere kicks off, the Isa Rodeo has crowned its new Rodeo Queen Whitney Dixon and Charity Queen Sharnee Lloyd.
Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo Manager Natalie Flecker paid tribute to all four entrants in this year’s Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Queen Quest who collectively raised $96,157.85 for local charities, and also to quest coordinator Lucy Williams and the organising committee.
Whitney and Sharnee were crowned at rodeo’s night of nights, the Bell & Moir Toyota Rodeo Ball attended by around 350 guests on Saturday night.
The Queen Quest entrants – Whitney (representing Mount Isa Neighbourhood Watch), Sharnee Lloyd (buy A Bale), Crystal Smith (Mount Isa Cancer House) and Alise Stritch (Two Little Hummingbirds) had spent months fundraising for their respective charities in the lead up to the gala ball.
As the new Charity Queen, Sharnee raised an incredible $40,451.13 for Buy A Bale, which helps local farming families in need of support.
Ms Flecker also acknowledged Wrangler’s support of the quest for the third consecutive year. “We are very grateful for the ongoing support of all our sponsors, and to Wrangler for their role with the Queen Quest,” she said.
The Isa Rodeo Queen Quest is an annual competition to discover ambassadors for the Isa Rodeo and raise funds for local charities.
Queen Quest hopefuls work hard fundraising throughout the year with the help of the Mount Isa community as they prepare for the Rodeo Ball and Queen Crowning. To register for the 2016 Queen Quest, please contact the Isa Rodeo office, email: firstname.lastname@example.org.

Around $200,000 in prizes (cash and buckles) is up for grabs at the three-day event which runs until August 9.
