New scenic helicopter tours will be taking flight from the famous Isa Rodeo HQ, Buchanan Park for the first time during the August rodeo.
Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo Manager Ms Natalie Flecker said well known Queensland aviation company, Nautilus Aviation would offer Isa Rodeo-goers a range of scenic flights during the three-day rodeo.
“We are always looking for new and exciting tour options, and these scenic heli tours will give both our visitors and locals the opportunity to get a birds’ eye view of the rodeo and Mount Isa they will never forget,” said Ms Flecker.
The biggest and richest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere will kick off from August 12 to 14.
Rodeo-goers can choose from two new heli tours. The 10-minute Mount Isa City Scenic Flight gives you the true layout of the city and its landmarks. Normally $130 per person, the Rodeo Special is $99 per person with a minimum of two passengers (available August 12 – 14).
Also on offer is a scenic flight out to Lake Moondarra, the massive Outback lake outside Mount Isa which can only be truly appreciated from the air. This flight showcases the arid landscapes giving way to the lake’s spectacular scenery. The return trip to Mount Isa encompasses panoramic views of the city, offering an exceptional perspective of this diverse region. The 20-minute Rodeo Special is $198 per person, for a minimum two passengers (available August 12 – 14).
Nautilus Aviation Sales & Marketing Manager Ms Debbie Walters said a new range of charter flight options were also available in Mount Isa for the first time.
“We will be offering a four-hour heli flight to the Outback Oasis of Adels Grove, including a gourmet picnic and the chance to enjoy a freshwater swim at a local watering hole,” said Ms Walters. “For the ultimate adrenalin rush, Nautilus Aviation also can tailor make a heli fishing adventure for a small group to the beautiful Lake Julius. Imagine having your own helicopter and experienced pilot to take you fishing in places you can’t get to by any other means.”
Heli tour bookings will be available on the Isa Rodeo website, www.isarodeo.com.au
Ms Flecker said the 58th annual Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo was shaping up as one of the best rodeos to be held during the event’s proud history.
“Our event has three days of international-standard rodeo competition, but we put just as much focus on what’s happening outside the arena for our rodeo-goers,” said Ms Flecker. Apart from live concert entertainment, there is a free Wednesday night rodeo street party, a free Friday night family mardi-gras, Fred Brophy’s Outback boxing troupe, bush poets breakfast and much more.
This year will also see the rodeo’s popular Swag City expanded in Buchanan Park, with three to five day packages available.
The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo presented by the Combined Rotary Clubs of Mount Isa. The not-for-profit event has donated more than $4 million to local community groups, charities and sporting organisations since it began in 1959.
