LEGENDARY SINCE 1959

Hall of Fame to be legacy of iconic Isa Rodeo’s 60th event

Outback Australia’s newest tourism attraction, the Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame will be established in time for the iconic event’s Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary Rodeo in August.

Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Inc (MIRRI) Chairman Mr Darren Campi said the first inductions into the hall of fame would be made during the Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo’s Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary Rodeo being held over four days, from August 9 to 12, 2018.

Mr Campi announced $250,000 funding had been secured from the Australian Government; the event’s longtime naming rights sponsor, Mount Isa Mines (MIM); plus a MIRRI contribution.

Mount Isa City Council Mayor Joyce McCulloch confirmed the council would provide a location for the hall of fame at Mount Isa’s award-winning Outback at Isa tourism attraction.

“The Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame will be an important year-round tourism attraction for Mount Isa which celebrates our world-class event,” she said.

Mr Campi said he had received confirmation from the Department of Regional Development that MIRRI’s application for $130,000 funding to the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) had been successful.

General Manager Health, Safety, Environment & Community for Glencore’s North Queensland operations, Ms Maryann Wipaki also confirmed MIM would donate $60,000 towards the project.

“MIM has supported the Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo from the very beginning and we were proud to be Naming Rights sponsors of this iconic event again in 2017, which was judged Best Festival or Event at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards,” said Ms Wipaki.

“The preservation of rodeo history is important, supporting the Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame helps achieve this.”

MIRRI would contribute a further $60,000, according to Mr Campi. He said it would be a busy year ahead establishing Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame and preparing for the Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary event.

“A Hall of Fame project is the perfect tribute to our amazing event for its 60th anniversary year,” said Mr Campi. “We are looking forward to celebrating the amazing competitors and stock who have competed in our initial venue, Kalkadoon Park and current venue, the world-class Buchanan Park Events Complex.”

The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary Rodeo will be held over four days from 9 to 12 August, 2018.

The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and promoted as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland event calendar.
