CELEBRATING 60 YEARS

Gold seating the hot ticket at this year’s Isa Rodeo

Gold Class seating and a new Pop Up Tent City are creating a buzz for the legendary Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo, as tickets to the iconic event go on sale.

Isa Rodeo Manager Ms Natalie Flecker said preparations had focused on both creating new visitor experiences as well as improving the rodeo’s range of accommodation and touring options, all built around this year’s event on August 12 to 14.

“Two years ago, we introduced “Gold Class” seating where rodeo-goers can book “the best seats in the house” right opposite the chutes and this is again proving really popular,” said Ms Flecker. “We have a limited number of gold seats and already it is more than one-third sold out.”

Ms Flecker said she expected a new Pop Up Tent City to prove a popular addition to the Mount Isa accommodation options available to visitors.

The new Pop Up Tent City will be set up at Rodeo HQ, Buchanan Park so guests can stay onsite in a canvas tent already set up equipped with two king single stretcher beds with thick, self inflating foam mattresses, bed linen, pillow, towel, blanket, LED lantern, camp chair priced from just $95 per person twin share for a three night stay, including cooked breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, plus access to a central common area with tea, coffee and phone charging station.

Ms Flecker said chute tours were also booking strongly. “I think people love the idea of being taken behind the chutes and up to the administration office by an experienced guide,” she said. “These tours are only available to gold seating holders and may be guided by a protection athlete or a rodeo queen entrant, and are a wonderful opportunity to go behind the scenes to watch cowboys getting ready to compete.”

She said there was also strong interest in the new scenic helicopter flights with Nautilus Aviation. The flights will take off from Buchanan Park and fly either over the CBD and mine, or out to Lake Moondarra.

Also new this year is a Mount Isa Experience Tour which combines a visit underground on the Hard Times Mine at the award-winning Outback @ Isa with a breath taking sunset at a desert lake.

The Rodeo Experience and Ultimate Rodeo Experience Tours combine entry to key events, gold seat pass and an underground mining experience at the Hard Times Mine.

“I urge people to book the premium experiences like the gold seating, chute tours and scenic heli flights as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as availability will be strictly limited,” said Ms Flecker.

A “Swag City” is also available for those in a caravan, campervan or motorhome, offering powered and unpowered sites.

Ms Flecker said this year’s rodeo would also feature an incredible entertainment line-up which will kick off after Friday night’s famous Mardi Gras parade (August 12), with Melbourne-based Deep Creek Road rocking the outdoor stage.

“One of the most successful acts on the Australian music scene – The Wolfe Brothers – are performing in Mount Isa for their very first time for rodeo on Saturday night, supported by X Factor runner-up Caitlyn Shadbolt,” said Ms Flecker. “Your rodeo pass or daily ticket if you only come that day also includes our live music line-up so it’s pretty amazing value.”
