LEGENDARY SINCE 1959

Country star Shea Fisher swaps Nashville for the Mount Isa Rodeo

Nashville-based country music star Shea Fisher is heading home to Mount Isa to join the line-up of world-class rodeo entertainment at this year’s spectacular event.

Rodeo has always been a family affair for the beautiful 24-year-old singer-songwriter, the daughter of bull riding and bareback riding champion, Eddie Fisher and barrel racing champion, Joanne Fisher.

Shea will show she’s as comfortable on horseback as on stage with a starring role in the arena singing the national anthem and some of her songs on horseback.  A regular commentating on the PBR Bull Riding Circuit in the States, in Mount Isa Shea will also interview the competitors post-ride which will be broadcast in real time on a giant screen.

This year’s Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo will be held from August 10 to 12, and the talented artist and former rodeo competitor is looking forward to returning to the Isa.

“I always love coming home,” said Shea. “I have been fortunate to work the PBR circuit which takes me around the States and Mount Isa has one of the best rodeo arenas in the world.

“I remember competing here when I was eight years old, and still get an adrenalin rush every time I enter the arena.”

Flying in for this year’s Mount Isa rodeo will give Shea the chance to catch up with her family with her dad again taking on the important role of Chute Boss (the person responsible for getting the stock set for the riders and ensuring everything is set before the chute is opened), and her mum competing in the open barrel race championship.

“I started competing in rodeo when I was three years old and I won my first National Rodeo Association Junior Barrel Racing title in 1997 when I was nine,” said Shea.

Her family moved to America the following year for her father’s rodeo career, and Shea continued her winning streak in the arena claiming several Texas Youth Rodeo Association events including the All Round Championship title.

It was also in America that her love affair with country music began and when the family returned to Australia in 2000, Shea combined her two passions and began singing the national anthem at professional rodeos while also competing in the events.

Shea has been based in Nashville since 2006 when she recorded her debut album. Since then, she has achieved two Top 20 albums, four Australian number one country music videos, a US and Australian recording deal and a Top 20 American Country Music Cable Channel video under her belt.

Along with her PBR commentary, Shea is also hosting a new US TV show called Project Cowboy which is based around finding the next great American horseman.  She is also the face of global brand, Corral Boots and models for brands including Rock and Roll Cowgirl and Maui Jim Sunglasses.

“I grew up in a rodeo family and am a cowgirl at heart,” said Shea. “That’s why I am counting down the days until I’m back in the Isa.”

The 2012 Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo will be held from Friday to Sunday, August 10 to 12.
