In the early days you could win a pony in the Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo’s annual art union, now the prizes are thousands of dollars worth of Toyota vehicles and travel.
The Isa Rodeo’s art union tickets are definitely “the hottest tickets in town,” according to rodeo manager Ms Natalie Flecker.
“Tickets are now on sale through the rodeo office and participating businesses around Mount Isa, including from our popular spot in front of Kmart,” said Ms Flecker.
She said the art union’s success as a major community fundraiser was due in no small part to long term major sponsors Bell & Moir Toyota and third prize sponsor Helloworld.
First prize this year is a Toyota Landcruiser Wagon 4.5L GXL, second prize is a Toyota C-HR and third prize is a $3,000 Helloworld travel voucher.
The rodeo art union has come a long way since it held pony raffles in the 70s, and nervous parents were allowed to choose a colour television instead if they weren’t keen on the pony.
“With the long term and loyal support of Bell & Moir we’ve really upped the ante with Toyota vehicle prizes that everyone wants to win,” said Ms Flecker. “Their support has enabled the rodeo to raise thousands of dollars to benefit the community.
“One of the reasons the art union is so popular is your odds are so good with only 2,600 tickets sold.”
Art union tickets are $100 each. Tickets are available from participating businesses, as well as by calling the rodeo office on (07) 4743 2706 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The winners will be drawn at Buchanan Park on Sunday, August 13 at 1.30pm.
The 2017 Isa Rodeo will be held from August 11 to 13, with preparations already well underway, including the Rodeo Queen Quest.
The event has raised more than $4 million for local community groups as diverse as the Royal Flying Doctors Service, the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC), North Queensland Rescue Helicopter Service, the Laura Johnson Home and BUSHkids community health organisation.
The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and promoted as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland event calendar.
