This year will mark the 50th Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo and organisers are well underway with planning for the Golden Anniversary milestone event.
Surprises and special inclusions are expected and being currently being locked in to ensure celebrations reflect the achievements of the rodeo event, now the largest and richest in the Southern Hemisphere.
Organisers are also inviting the local community to start their planning with the community involvement seen as a highlight of the massive three day carnival. Within the world renowned event sits the ever popular Mardi Gras street parade procession.
With the Olympics taking place and the Isa Rodeo making fifty, the Mardi Gras event is set to add to the momentum with the theme ‘Going for Gold’.
“We are tying in the 50th milestone as much as possible throughout the entire event. It is a huge accomplishment by the city of Mount Isa that our event has been delivered fifty times and has been showcased to hundreds of thousands of visitors, it is a worthy reason to celebrate”, said Mrs Joyce McCulloch, Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo General Manager.
The organising committee decided to announce the Mardi Gras theme earlier this year than usual to allow entrants additional time to plan, create and construct their entries in the parade.
“We’re definitely hoping those involved recognise the importance of this year and put even more work and effort into their floats to help us continue the milestone celebrations”, added Mrs McCulloch.
The Mardi Gras event will take place on Friday 8th August 2008 as part of the 2008 Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo.
