LEGENDARY SINCE 1959

All invited to Mardi Gras!

The 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will celebrate “Looking Forward Looking Back” tomorrow night from 7pm with the popular Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Mardi Gras event taking flight on its new route for the first time.

With groups in overdrive adding the final touches to their floats, the procession tomorrow (Friday) evening is sure to be a feast of colour, music, lights and celebrations.

As many of the entrants attempt to keep their designs and style under wraps until the showcase Mardi Gras, whispers of old ambulances, mechanical contraptions, herds of animals, smoke machines and many other visual delights are being leaked which means the Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Mardi Gras tomorrow night could contain just about anything!

In the past, floats have been created with hours of labour, sleepless nights, intricate details and spectacular designs that have always added to and enhanced the overall celebrations of the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo, and 2007 is sure to uphold and possibly exceed the level of standard set.

With differing opinions voiced regarding the new route of the stalwart Mardi Gras event, the organisers remain confident that the success of Buchanan Park as the home of rodeo is without doubt still the best choice for the Mardi Gras finale.

“Change is something we understand requires a period of adaptability, the change needs to also be demonstrated to the community successfully. This year, we hope that the local Mount Isa community will come together and support their Mardi Gras event and discover that the new route for Mardi Gras will not impact the experience”, said Mrs Joyce McCulloch. Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo General Manager.

“We have put great thought into the logistics and appreciate the local residents concerns, however we believe the new route will deliver minimal inconvenience to them. We thank the local community for their support of the Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Mardi Gras and hope to see everyone out enjoying the procession” added Mrs McCulloch.

The new location ties in perfectly with the 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Mardi Gras theme, “Looking Forward, Looking Back”, an opportunity for the rodeo to embrace a bright new future in its new venue whilst reflecting on its origins and previous home at Kalkadoon Park.

The “Looking Forward, Looking Back” Mardi Gras parade will begin it’s procession at 7pm on the corner of George St & Abel Smith Parade before heading west up George Street, turn right onto Sutton Street and will finish at the end of Sutton Street.

Organisers recommend spectators secure their place early to ensure the best possible vantage points.

The 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will run from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August 2007. For further information about the 2007 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo please contact the Media Unit at RODEO HQ on 07 47432706 or 0409985997.
