ABC exhibition trailer on the road to Mount Isa Rodeo

The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will welcome a special 20 tonne guest to next week’s rodeo – the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) Exhibition trailer.

Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo Manager Ms Natalie Flecker said the massive trailer would be based at Buchanan Park on Saturday, August 9 and open to the public from 11.00am to 4.00pm.

“The trailer is very interactive and offers lots of fun activities for adults and children to try,” said Ms Flecker. “We are also very excited that ABC Radio will be broadcasting live from the rodeo statewide on Saturday from 10am to midday, in addition to a HOT FM outside broadcast on Friday (August 8) from 11am to 2pm.”

Ms Flecker said rodeo-goers would be able to experience the magic of the television chroma key and teleprompter in the trailer’s digital TV studio.

“You’ll also be able to practise your news and weather presenting and children can sing along to their favourite ABC Kids tune,” she said. “You can even host your own radio broadcast from the radio studio and and download your performance for free.”

The Exhibition Touring trailer was first conceived in 2001 as a means of taking the ABC to all parts of Australia, supporting local ABC programs and outside broadcasts. The idea of an interactive vehicle that provided a ‘one-stop-shop’ showcasing all ABC products and services came from discussions with ABC staff around the country.

Since its launch in September 2002, the former Exhibition Trailer had exhibited at more than 200 events nationally, in more than 60 different locations and travelled around Australia eight times.

After travelling for more than 300,000 km, an updated version was launched in April, 2012 and features seven LED screens, a touchscreen to self navigate through documentaries, an iPad kiosk featuring iView and various apps, a new tablet registration system, the ABC shop online, ABC website stations, interactive games and more. It’s the first time the new Exhibition Trailer will visit the Isa Rodeo.
